New FIS-Control firmware. I fixed a bug in the new autostart-feature that led to a hang up of the FIS-Control when the selected OBD-group was not available. I finished the new masking-feature I announced a few days ago. It is possible to select the groups that shall be shown or hidden when browsing the measuring values. In the settings menu there is a new item "Mask". With the up-key you can select the groups of the current control unit. With the down-key you can toggle a checkmark. All checkmarked groups will be offered when doing a measurment. All unchecked groups are hidden. This makes it faster to access the groups that contain the interesting measurement values.

New FIS-Control firmware released. This time with a new feature that may be really helpful: You can enable an "Autostart"-option in the settings menu of the FIS-Control. This will display a predefined measurement screen directly after switching on the FIS-Control. So only one keypress is needed to enter your favorite view. No need to navigate through different menus and screens until you reach the thing you are looking for.

New FIS-Control firmware released. Only one minor change that improves the pass-through of the 3-wire-bus from a nav/radio to the cluster.

Finally I decided to put the schematics and the source-code of the Fritz!Relay online. After some issues with the FTDI-USB-chipset I replaced it by a Prolific-chip. This change is not documented in the schematics.

New firmware for the FIS-Control is released. There is one new feature that will allow faster browsing through the measuring groups, as empty groups (or groups without interesting data) can be skipped. The information which group shall be shown and which one shall be hidden is stored in the internal EEPROM of the FIS-Control. There is no comfortable way to edit this setting, yet... more to come.

I reworked the startlogo-feature of the FIS-Control again. The startlogo now works with all instrument clusters tested so far (the older firmware "2012-01-16" unfortunately did not). Thanks to all testers of the pre-release version of the new firmware! To reduce the time to the official release of the firmware, here is a beta version. Please give feedback.

There is a new firmware for the FIS-Control. A new option in the settings menu allows to configure the timing for the startlogo-feature. This should help to get the startlogo working with almost all instrument clusters that are supported by the FIS-Control. Here is a collection of startlogos that may be used. (If you want to create your own logo.. no problem. Have a look at the user's manual to see how to do it.)

A changed compiler-setting for the FIS-Control-firmware from 2011-12-27 introduced a minor bug in the handling of long key-presses. This is fixed now.

Updated user's manual for the FIS-Control.

2011-12-27

A new firmware for the FIS-Control is released. It adds a new feature: Auto-detection of the baudrate used by the ECU. Just choose "AUTO" in the baudrate menu and the FIS-Control will determine the correct baudrate to communicate with the ECUs by itself.

New firmware for the FIS-Control is available. This version improves the performance of the serial interface. Also some random display problems where solved that appeared on a few instrument clusters.

The new Fritz!Relay works perfectly now. It turns out that the FTDI-chipset does not run stable when it is connected directly to the Fritz!Box. Now I have an USB-Hub in between and everything is fine.

2011-10-16

The new Fritz!Relay is in use now. But I see some problems I didn't had with the older version. After some time (maybe an hour) the communication between the Fritz!Box and the Fritz!Relay becomes unidirectional. The Fritz!Relay still receives the commands and switches the relays, but the Fritz!Box doesn't receive the acknowledge messages. As I was using the Prolific PL2302 chipset and now changed to the FTDI-chipset it might be a problem of the FTDI-driver on the Fritz!Box.

I will release the schematics and the software for the new Fritz!Relay as soon as this problem is fixed and everything runs perfectly stable.

2011-10-09

I built a new version of the Fritz!Relay. It is now powered over USB and is capable of switching up to 8 relays (6 onboard, 2 external).

Added new video that shows the stopwatch timer of the FIS-Control.

Source-code and schematics for the boost-sensor board are available in the Daughterboard-section.

There is a new daughterboard for the FIS-Control. It connects to the FIS-Control via I²C and measures the intake air temperature, the manifold intake pressure, the ambient pressure and calculates the actual boost-pressure ( = manifold intake pressure - ambient pressure).
Source-code and schematics for the daughterboard will be released really soon.
Here is a first video of the board in action:

Added some infos about the EEPROM-addon for the FIS-Control. See the "FIS-Control Daughterboards"-section.

A new firmware for the FIS-Control is released. There was some rework of the serial interface (that allows to write text to the upper segment of the DIS) to get faster updates, e.g. for the external radar warner interface.

Second change is the built-in EEPROM-flasher. It is now possible to write data to an I²C-EEPROM that is connected to the FIS-Control.

Did a layout for the V1 interface board. Here is a POV-Ray rendering of it (done with Eagle 3D).

Finished the prototype of a daughterboard for the FIS-Control. It allows to use the DIS display in the instrument cluster as external monitor for a V1 radar trap warner. Thanks to "Farfromovin" who sent me his V1 for testing.
